It is with deep sadness and despair that we inform you that Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer passed away today in an accident. Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer was an integral part of the NUJS family. His presence in NUJS as the MHRD Chair Professor of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was inspiring to all the students. He was at the forefront of the movement to bring about accessibility to National Law Universities in India for marginalised students through his transformative initiative Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA). Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer also holds a special place in the hearts of all law aspirants for his fight for accountability in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). With his intellectual prowess, he also strived to change the IPR regime in India. Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer has left behind a rich and compassionate legacy for us. The NUJS fraternity joins the legal fraternity in mourning his loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and stand with them at their time of grief.
