STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY
The students of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (NUJS), condemn the violent attack that was unleashed against students, faculty members, and others in the disturbing chain of events that was witnessed at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi (JNU) on the 5th January, 2020. The inhumane attack on the educational institution and its members is a shameful attack on the constitutional values we cherish.
We acknowledge that the distressing news is one that advances the chilling effect on free speech in campuses which are supposed to serve as safe spaces for debate and discourse. As students of law, we are also appalled by the inaction exhibited by the law enforcement authorities in containing the situation of terror.
We stand with the students, the faculty, and those who suffered such brutality in JNU and extend our support to them unconditionally. We respect the resilience they have demonstrated in this testing time.
